6 Ways to Ensure You Reach Your Goals

6 Ways to Ensure You Reach Your Goals

Oftentimes, we set goals without truly planning but find we’ve fallen off a few weeks later.

If this sounds like you, keep reading.

I’m going to use fitness in the following example but these points easily transfer across setting any type of goal.

  1. Ensure you have a CLEAR plan… like, crystal clear.
There is the quote “Failing to Plan means Planning to Fail”. Although I don’t fully agree with that quote, there is a ring of truth.
Take the time to research. Research what you’re going to need vs what you may need to acquire. If you’re planning a fitness and exercise goal, do you currently have any fitness equipment? Will you need to purchase anything? Do you plan on joining a gym? Or working out in the comfort of your own home? Will you hire a personal trainer? If yes, will you ask friends family for recommendations or will you search google? If you’re joining a gym, will you research reviews? Sign a contract?
Putting some thought into this ahead of time ensures you know what your plan is, what you’ll need and how you’re going to move forward.
  2. Make sure you have a DEFINITIVE and STRONG “why”.
This is what will keep you going when the going gets tough.
Why does this goal matter to you? Determine its importance to you that you achieve it? Make sure you really dig deep and peel back as many layers as you can. Have you been diagnosed with a health problem that impedes you in your daily activities? Do you want to be able to play with your grandbabies? Make sure you’re brutally honest with yourself and peel back those layers.
  3. Stick to the routine/plan.
You’ve spent time peeling layers back, putting some serious thought into this. It’s critically important you stick to the plan you’ve created. Avoid getting distracted by the newest trends. There is always going to be something new or someone telling you about what they’re trying. Stick to your plan! You need to give your plan a minimum of 4 weeks and then, only then, reassess if any changes need to be made.
  4. Establish clear boundaries.
Boundaries…. oh my gosh, boundaries. Lines often get blurred with our boundaries in many areas of our lives but for this article, I’m focusing on boundaries within our health and wellness goals. Do not let outside advice from others distract or derail you. You have a plan, you know where your boundaries are… stay true to them.
  5. Stay on track regardless of life events.
When we’re talking about health & wellness goals, playing the long game is the way to win. The key to winning the long game is consistency. Life events happen. People get married, go on vacations, have a bad day/week/month at work. There’s no getting around the variety of things that pop up in our lives. Weare fabulous at using them as excuses.
However, you need to stay strong. Stay the course. Starting/stopping because there are events happening breaks the steady consistency. There will always be stress, a wedding or a trip. Stick to your plan.
it’s not forever, it’s just for now. Think about how wonderful it will feel when you’ve achieved that goal.. Hold strong to your why. Play the long game.
  6. Have support & accountability.
Please, do not fly solo. Find a team/people with expertise to help ensure you have all the tools you need to succeed. Hiring a team can literally save you tons of time and money. By hiring a trainer and/or a nutritionist, it saves you having to research of ton of relevant information. Health & wellness professionals eat, sleep and breathe this stuff. They’ll be able to create programs and/or guide you to your end goal faster and far less trial and error. I have a great article here that details and outlines how to hire health professionals.
